Discovering Tree Woman
101cm x 101cm
Katrina was inspired to paint Tree Woman during her walks along the New Town Creek in Hobart's Lenah Valley.
Tree Woman is a living tree dwelling amongst forest remains that stand around the New Town Creek that flows through the Lenah Valley's slowly encroaching urban community.
She is not a wild untamed tree of untouched forest in a wilderness landscape. Rather she stands majestically in the urban landscape accepting the scars from amputated limbs that have shaped her form and represent her urbanization.
When Katrina first saw her she was moved by how urban life has sculptured her and how she has maintained her strong and nurturing dignity within an urban setting.
The Path alongside the creek through this forest remnant is frequented by families. Katrina painted the girl, as part of the urban landscape, to represent the arousal of innocent curiosity of the feminine urban spirit when experiencing Tree Woman for the first time.
Original artwork is painted in oil on canvas.
Currently held by the Artist and showing in a private gallery.
